MEDICAL.IOT
Nadishastra-Based Pulse Diagnostic System.
Project Overview
Developed a pulse diagnostic device inspired by the traditional Indian technique of Nadishastra, designed to capture pulse signals through a high-sensitivity microphone. The device connects via USB to a mobile application that visualizes the pulse waveform, helping experts analyze and interpret health conditions for preventive care.

Client Requirement & Objectives

Digitization of Traditional Diagnosis
The system needed to support the traditional Nadishastra approach by enabling digital capture and visualization of human pulse patterns.
Mobile Application Integration
The device must connect to a mobile app via USB to transfer real-time pulse data, which is then graphically displayed for practitioner analysis.
Accurate and Non-Intrusive Sensing:
The microphone had to be sensitive enough to pick up subtle pulse vibrations while being comfortable and stable for patients during diagnosis.
Mass Manufacturing Ready
The product was designed with an initial production target of 5,000 units, requiring consistent hardware performance and streamlined assembly.

System Design & Build
USB-Based Data Transmission
Integrated a USB interface for power and data transfer, ensuring reliable, high-speed communication between the diagnostic device and the mobile app.
Pulse Signal Capture Module
Used a medical-grade microphone optimized for detecting skin-level vibrations. The circuitry filtered and amplified signals before sending them to the app.
Mobile App Visualization
Developed a companion mobile application capable of rendering real-time pulse waveforms, enabling practitioners to view and analyze pulse data in detail.
Form Factor & Mechanical Design
Engineered a compact and ergonomically shaped casing to house the microphone and electronics, ensuring effective contact and patient comfort.
Key Challenges & Solutions
Microphone Sensitivity & Stability
Ensuring accurate pulse detection without interference from hand movement or ambient noise was a key challenge. This was resolved through a custom enclosure design and precise microphone placement.
Thermal & Power Optimization
Compatibility across various Android devices with USB OTG was managed by adhering to standardized USB communication protocols and conducting extensive cross-device testing.
High-Speed Logging Reliability
Multiple prototypes were iterated to balance comfort, acoustic isolation, and manufacturability—crucial for consistent performance across all 5,000 units.
Post-Test Data Handling
To ensure quality at scale, a calibration and testing workflow was implemented for each unit to validate microphone accuracy and signal transmission via USB before packaging.
